Breaking News  :  Iran Updates Entry Rules for Foreign Travelers  – 25 August 2025

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has implemented new regulations requiring all foreign visitors to enter Iran only through organized and official tour groups. Independent or individual travel is no longer permitted.  Foreign travelers must provide a formal contract with a registered Iran travel agency, confirmed hotel bookings, and a complete Travel itinerary to apply for an Iran visa. Additionally, an authorized tour guide must accompany travelers throughout their stay.  Visa processing at Iranian embassies is expected to take 2–3 weeks.

Iran visa requirements

  • Valid Passport with at least 6 months of validity 
  • The passport must have at least two blank pages for the visa stamp 
  • Two visa application forms ,which will be provided by our consultant and must be completed .d in full. 
  • One  recent photo ( 4*6),with a white background ,no glasses, and no smiling. 
  • For applicants of all nationalities, the visa approval process usually takes 2 to 3  working weeks. 
  • For U.S.-U.K., and Canadian passport holders ,the process may take up to 2 months.

           After the visa is approved, the applicants must:

  • Before the expiry date mentioned in the visa approval, visit the embassy, consulate, or the selected airport (as chosen during the visa application) to stamp and finalize the visa.

Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Georgia, Lebanon, Oman, Malaysia, Egypt, Syria, Serbia, Turkey, Venezuela and China & Hongkong Macau. 

Important note 1: The citizens of Israel can not travel to Iran regarding the political relations.

Important note 2:  Nationals who have traveled to Israel must wait at least six months after thier visit before they can apply for entry to iran

Iran Visa on Arrival

According to the new rules announced by the MFA, travelers can not get visa on arrival anymore. Those people who would like to travel to Iran need to get visa authorization code in advance through a local travel agency, then collect it at the airport upon arrival. 

Since the number of nationals who can stamp Iran visa at the airport is a lot, it’s better to mention the countries which cannot get Iran visaat the airport that is:

America, Canada, England, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Somalia, Colombia, Pakistan, Iraq, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Libya, Yemen, and Jordan.

Iran Visa-Free Zones

There are a few free trade zones in Iran positioned on Iran borders. To enter these regions the travelers do not need a visa. Free zones in Iran include:

Kish Island, Qeshm Island, Chabahar, Anzali, Arvand, Aras, and Maku.

Conditions for Visa-free Entry:

  1. Maximum Stay :Up to 14 days 
  2. Eligible Nationalities: Most Foreign nationals can use this facilities.
  3. Special Requirements for certain countries :Citizens of the U.S. – U.K. – and Canada must enter with an official tour guide and a pre-booked hotel.

Important Notes: 

Travelers planning to stay longer than 14 days or visit other parts of Iran must obtain a visa form an Iranian embassy or consulate before arrival.

Citizens of all countries except Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Georgia, Lebanon, Malaysia, Egypt, Syria, Turkey, Venezuela, and China & Hongkong Macau, need a visa to visit Iran. All citizens can visit Kish and Qeshm islands without getting Iran visa and stay there for at most 14 days.

  7. (Type G) Transit Visa is required for foreign citizens who are going to pass through Iran to another country.
  8. (Type H) Press Visa is required for the journalists travailing to Iran on business. The application must be submitted to the embassy’s press section.

The visa tracking code (authorization number) is given by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to approved visitors. Approved visitors then need to take this tracking code to the Iran embassy in their country and get their Iran Visa stamped, some of the visitors are also able to get their visa stamped at the Iran international airports.

The visa is the actual document issued by an Iranian embassy or consulate and put into your passport that allows you to enter Iran.

If you want to stamp your visa at the Iranian embassies or consulates, the visa tracking code is valid for 25 days. Once you receive it from us, you should contact your designated Iranian embassy or consulate within the three days to make sure they have received them from the MFA too.

The citizens of Afghanistan and Bangladesh should apply for Iran visa in the Iran embassy or consulate personally and cannot get their visas by travel agencies. Except those who have other passports and can get their visas through travel agencies.

Iran Visa Validity

You can see visa validity on the Iranian visa sticker. You must travel to Iran during the validity of visa and of course exit the country before Iran visa expiration. please mention that it could be extended.

All nationals except Americans, Canadians and the English can extend their Iran visa at the police offices for immigrants and aliens in the cities of Iran. Please mention that the travelers who get their Iran visa stamped at the airport (VOA) cannot extend their visas (we’ve got some reports that some of them could!).

Iran E-visa Requirements

1) Passport:

Passport must be valid for six months and have two blank visa pages, at least.

2) Photo:

photo must meet the following criteria:

  • Be taken within the last three months (a passport type photo)
  • With white background
  • two by two inches size (max 500 KB)
  • with the full-frontal view of head with the face centered in the middle
  • with no eyeglasses nor head-wear except the religious one
  • without any adhesive tape or staples
  • with no smile

Step by Step How to Get Iran Visa Process

Step 1) Fill and Send the Visa Application Form

In the first step you should fill out the visa application form and attach your documents.

Step 2) Applying for Iran Visa Tracking Code

Visa tracking code also known as authorization numberapplication IDIran grant noticesubmission notice, invitation letter or simply visa codeis a code that is issued for Iran travelers by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA)

It takes about 2-3 working weeks to obtain your visa code. Unless you are US, UK or Canadian Passport Holder. Iran Visa authorization number is valid for 25 days.

Step 3) Iran Visa Document Delivery

After receiving the visa tracking code, you need to take the following documents to the Iranian embassy or consulate designated on your visa code application : 
  1. Visa tracking code or application ID
  2. Visa and postage fees
  3. Passport (valid for six months and have two blank visa pages, at least)
  4. Two recent passport-type photos
  5. Any other requirements that the designated embassy may request for.

Note: the mentioned above requirements are general, for Specific items and conditions (like fingerprinting) of your designated Iranian embassy/consulate, please contact them.

 

Step 4) Visa Stamping

Iranian embassy or consulate will put the visa stamp into your passport or on a separate piece of paper. The Iranian embassies in different countries have their own regulations, some of them give you your visa at the same day you hand over your documents and the others ask you to refer in the following days.

Iran visa is valid for 90 days from the time it is issued, and the visa holder can visit Iran for maximally one month during these 90 days (It could be extended under specific cases).

 

Iran Visa on Arrival

Important Tips to Know about Getting Iran Visa

  1. For Iran visa the passport must have at least 6-month validity and two blank pages justify.
  2. You can not apply for Iran e-visa on your own anymore and you need to ask for your visa from a reliable governmental Iranian travel agency.
  3. If you have Israeli visa stamp in your passport you can apply for Iran visa 6 months later.
  4. If you are born in Iran or your father is Iranian, you are assumed an Iranian citizen and you must travel to Iran with an Iranian passport. On the other hand, if you have an Iranian mother and your father has any other citizenship, you can travel to Iran with a non-Iranian passport.
  5. If you are a woman and your husband is Iranian and you have a marriage certificate valid to Iran, you are exempt from getting Iran visa and you can travel to Iran with your Iranian passport.
  6. Visiting Kish Island and Qeshm Island for 14 days doesn’t need visa.
  7. Iran visa is issued on a separate piece of paper with no trace in passport for all nationalities except American, English, Canadian, Afghan, Pakistani, Jordanian, Colombian, Bangladeshi and Somali.
  8. Israeli citizens cannot enter Iran.
